Construction & green skills jobs & training fair for unemployed women

Unemployed women or women looking for a career change are invited to attend a construction and green skills jobs and training fair. The event, which celebrates International Women’s Day, will be held on Friday 8th March at The Drum in Wembley. Attendees will be able to meet employers with vacancies and colleges offering apprenticeships, training and qualifications in construction and green skills. Educational resources to teach climate change in primary schools 

An excellent range of free-to-use and adaptable educational resources to help teach climate change and energy in primary schools is available from the Centre for Sustainable Energy The materials are suitable for children in Early Years through to Key Stage 2 and cover topics like ‘What is climate’, ‘How to save energy’, and ‘What is fuel poverty.’ Click here to download.

Help for job coaches on how to get your clients into construction jobs 

Green Skills Hub planning a series of online masterclass sessions for job coaches and job brokerage staff to help you increase your success rate of getting jobseekers into construction jobs. They are bringing together a panel of employers and experts to guide you through what employers look for when considering job applications. They will also look at the range of opportunities on offer, pay levels, how to grow and progress in construction and what are the best and fastest routes into jobs. Click here to get involved.

Free help for SMEs to achieve Net Zero

The government funded Better Futures programme provides sustainability and energy support for London SMEs – helping put them on the path to Net Zero. The free programme provides access to:

Degree apprenticeships at Bowmer + Kirkland
Recruitment is underway for degree apprenticeships at construction and development group Bowmer + Kirkland. Three roles in London are on offer, Quantity surveying, Site management and Site engineering. The deadline for applications is 29th March. Click here to find out more. Moving military veterans into construction

Building Heroes, the charity that helps military veterans and their families transition to civilian life, is offering construction training for veterans, service leavers, family members, reservists and a select number of places for people aged 19+. Participants can gain a City & Guilds level-1 in multi-trades; health & safety and CSCS card at Building Heroes’ Watford and Wembley training centres. Work placements, access to employers with job vacancies and progression to funded level-2 courses is also available. Ever tried to repair a toaster?

People with broken electronic or electricals (mobile phones, computers, ear buds, toasters etc) are invited to take part in a short survey to share their experiences. The survey is being conducted by Imperial College London as part of a project run by the London Office of Technology and Innovation (LOTI) to find out more about how Londoners use or consider using repair services for electrical goods. The survey is anonymous, takes under 10 minutes. Once completed you will be invited to enter a raffle to win one of four £25 IKEA vouchers. Full details here.

Go Green Go West

West London’s top training providers and colleges have teamed up to produce a 2023-2024 West London Green Skills Prospectus which showcases the green skills training courses and qualifications on offer in West London in a single user-friendly online publication. Courses and qualifications featured range from entry level through to commercial courses, together with the contact details of staff who would be delighted to discuss both your green skills and construction training needs.

We need to talk about ESOL in West London

Research is underway to better understand how the ESOL system in West London can be improved. West London Alliance would like to hear the views of ESOL tutors and providers working in West London (boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hounslow and Hillingdon). There are three surveys where views are sought with a completion date of 1st March. These are a Provider survey, Tutor survey and Helping adults in West London to learn English survey for all.
