Heathrow’s 2023 Sustainability Report Launched

Heathrow has released their sustainability report that focuses on decarbonisation and ensuring the airport, and the communities around it, can be a great place to live and work...

Heathrow 2.0 is the airport’s sustainability plan to connect people and planet.  It focuses on decarbonisation and ensuring the airport, and the communities around it, can be a great place to live and work.

Highlights of the 2023 Sustainability Report:

  • Launching Heathrow’s sustainability-linked bond (SLB): In July, the airport launched our SLB that includes 100% of the airport’s carbon footprint, an airport first. Aligning with Heathrow’s carbon reduction targets ‘in the air’ and ‘on the ground’, it’s a financial mechanism that includes scope 3 emissions – representing a pivotal moment in the airport’s decarbonisation efforts.
  • Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) policy win: Through itsEnergy bill, Government committed to looking at de-risking investment in SAF through a consultation on a price support mechanism and committed to 5 SAF plants in UK by 2025.
  • Driving progress ‘on the ground’: Heathrow made good headway across 2023 in driving EV charging to support zero emission vehicles across the airport. 100% of Heathrow operational diesel vehicles have also made the switch to biodiesel.
  • Championing diversity: In 2023, Heathrow launched a fifth colleague diversity group, focusing on parents and carers. It’s a testament to the airport’s commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace.
  • Community Volunteering: Over 1,000 colleagues participated in local community volunteering through Heathrow’s Giving Back Programme.

In the full report, Heathrow details the progress made towards their 2030 goals, as well as some of the challenges faced.
