Students from grades four to six will learn to stretch their limits at Khalsa Primary School following the launch of new Yoga and Mindfulness classes funded by Heathrow’s Community Fund.

Heathrow’s Chief Executive John Holland-Kaye joined Heathrow volunteer and Development Project Specialist Charanbir Anand to present a cheque for £2,500 to Khalsa Primary School in Slough on Thursday.

The grant was offered as part of Heathrow’s HAPi grant scheme which supports employees who regularly volunteer to help their community. Mr Anand has been volunteering at Khalsa Primary School in his spare time for the last seven years and applied for the grant to enable the school to provide Yoga and Mindfulness classes for children aged 8-12 years, giving them a platform to build confidence, agility, self-awareness and general wellbeing.

John Holland-Kaye met with students and teachers to hear how these sessions will help to ensure children are in an optimal state for learning and more able to cope with the stresses and strains of later life beyond school.

Khalsa Primary School Headteacher Raminder Vig said:

“Khalsa Primary School, Slough, are proud and delighted to be in partnership with Heathrow Airport to support KPS children taking part in yoga sessions.  Yoga lessons enhances our children’s concentration, increases self-esteem, maintains flexibility and strengthens growing bodies. We would like to thank the CEO of Heathrow, John Holland–Kaye for his continued support and looking forward to working with him.”

Heathrow’s CEO John Holland-Kaye said:

“We are delighted to support this project which will teach children the skills they need to build personal resilience and be able to respond to many of life’s challenges. Our HAPi grants programme was launched in 2015 as a way of encouraging and supporting our Heathrow colleagues who volunteer in their local community, wherever they live. I’m always amazed by how much our colleagues do, and I’m delighted that our grant funding can help them do even more within our local community.”
