We have fantastic schools, universities and training facilities in West London; and yet demand for skilled labour has never been higher. What gives?

“The labour market across the UK has rarely been as tight as it appears right now. Against that backdrop equipping young people in their early careers with the skills needed in the labour market is rising up the priority list for many in policy and businesses alike. The upcoming West London Skills Summit will explore this theme and others.

One area often overlooked is startup businesses. Like many others, the allure of talented graduates is strong, but many startups miss out on the best candidates as bigger corporates have strong routes into universities. This means diverse talent that may flourish with startups are often left facing difficulties accessing the space.

Oscar Hardy, CEO, Libra Careers says: “Libra Careers recruits and trains young people for StartUps and small to medium businesses. Our young people have huge talent and ambition to work in innovative and high-growth StartUps. If you’re not from a typical entrepreneurial or startup background it can be hard to break into however and this means both young people and businesses are missing out.”

Recent cohorts of trainees through the Libra Careers programme have found work in sales, marketing and data at startups doing value work such as Time to Spare.”
