Policy Makers

Drawing on over thirty years of experience we provide advice and support to local government, City Hall and national government partners. At the heart of our policy programme is a focus on economic, social and environmental sustainability in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

West London Energy Constraints

West London Business (WLB) has championed the need for increased investment to address West London energy constraints since 2021, when we first became aware of the extent of the issue. WLB members raised serious concerns regarding the risk of investment slowing down due to these constraints, impacting the development of new housing and industrial investment in the area. Today we are actively engaged with National Grid, SSE, Ofgem and NESO to address these challenges.

Advocacy Working Groups

For Member’s only, four Policy Working Groups guide and monitor our advocacy and action on:

The West London Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP)

The Environment & Climate Change Working Group includes leaders from across WLB’s membership who help shape our activities, connections and partnerships across the West London geography and beyond to support our Net Zero and carbon reduction goals.  Since 2021, having been awarded UN observer status at the COP global meetings, WLB hosts a group of 10 or so leaders in the Blue Zone of the COP meetings.

WLB’s Built Environment Working Group gathers representatives from WLB’s membership to shape the agenda of this working group and its engagement with public sector partners. From property management and development to architects and suppliers the list of organisations is many and varied. The Group provides strategic counsel for Net Zero Neighbourhoods, the West London Property lunch series as well as our involvement in conferences including MIPIM, UKREiiF and emergent issues relating to the sector eg. the current West London energy constraints. Chaired by Max Farrell of The London Collective.

Chaired by Kerry Bangle of WSP, the group looks at the large infrastructure and transport issues in our sub-region including topics such as the West London Orbital, hydrogen refuelling, energy constraints, cycling infrastructure, HS2, and the digital network.  It shares information gathered and activities to support the economic growth and stability of West London.
