This summer, Brunel students have had two unique opportunities to excel in front of leading entrepreneurs as they compete in multidisciplinary teams for significant prizes and career-enhancing experiences.
The first challenge with ZISHI Cornerstone, an international financial education training business, has tested students’ marketing and communications abilities in the design of a product launch. In addition to cash prizes for the winning teams, all participants had the chance to attend a presentation on careers in Investment Banking and Investment Management. The winning trading team and winning communication plan team will have a ‘top tips’ for business session with Tim Campbell.
The second challenge is in partnership with Qi Digital to create a realistic marketing plan and present it in the form of a pitch deck for a FinTech start-up, based on how the new world Web3 will open the use of digital currencies to a wider market.
The company is looking for revolutionary ideas which may be drawn from new solutions such as NLP (Natural Language Processing) and AI (Artificial Intelligence).
Students get the chance to attend financial, technical and marketing workshops led by Qi Digital, Google Garage, Prof. Dorothy Yen and Tim Campbell, before presenting their ideas to the judges in the form of a pitch deck.
Prizes include a paid internship at Qi Digital, interview opportunities for careers in financial trading and the chance to meet industry leaders at the annual event, ‘Qi Talks’.
Commenting on both challenges, Entrepreneur Director for Bridging the Gap Gurnam Selvarajah said: “We have worked hard with our business partners ZISHI and Qi Digital to design two competitions that will really stretch our students. Not only will the entrants gain a deeper understanding of the world of technology and marketing, but also exposure to some of the finest minds in industry.”
The competitions were open to students across all academic disciplines and demonstrates the emphasis the university places on transferable skills in business and the workplace.
Gurnam continues: “Each year we strengthen our relationship with industry and the working world. We invite business experts to deliver seminars, to provide collaborative Final Year Projects and dissertation research, and to work alongside our academic colleagues. This way Brunel alumni get a fabulous learning experience, and strengthen their career potential.”
