Youth Employment and the Proactive Adoption of Responsible AI

In February 2026, Youth Careers Collective (YCC) published What’s the Big A.Idea?, a paper examining artificial intelligence and youth employment. West London Business welcomes the paper’s contribution to a debate that is urgently needed. We share its fundamental commitment to ensuring young people are not further marginalised by technological change and we offer a response in a spirit of constructive partnership.

WLB is the business leadership forum for the world’s most connected place, representing employers across all seven West London boroughs, from micro-enterprises to anchor institutions like Heathrow Airport. Our Education & Skills programme sits at the intersection of employer demand, sub-regional economic strategy and the talent pipeline, and we coordinate the West London Annex to the London Local Skills Improvement Plan.

We read YCC’s paper with respect — and with urgency. It asks the right questions, though we don’t always agree with its conclusions, and some of its framings risk misdirecting effort if adopted uncritically. Our response sets out where we agree, where we diverge, highlights a key dimension we feel is missing — the ethical divergence between AI platforms and its workforce implications — and provides an expanded set of recommendations building on YCC’s own.
